Preserving Autumn...
The chaotic mess from the previous post is all sorted out, boxes disposed of, table and chairs returned to the centre of the room and the silver polished so now it looks like a dining room again. So today I can get on with fun stuff! I saw something on the net a while back about preserving autumn leaves with beeswax so thought I would give it a go. What a fun easy project with immediate results - just what I need right now! I simply dipped dry leaves into melted wax, let them dry and have put them in an old thrifted wooden bowl on the coffee table to make the colours of my favourite season last a little longer. I don't know how long they will last but it's a great alternative when there are very few flowers about here at the moment. The smell from the unrefined beeswax is heavenly!

Beautiful photos, captured perfectly.

Beautiful, Julia! What I find fascinating is that (here in West Virginia in the U.S.) I can identify (at least I think I can!) several species of leaves you have in the bowl:tulip poplar, post oak, black gum, both domestic and wild cherry, and maybe more if I were to return to the photo and study it further. I had no idea that South Island has a "colorful" autumn as we do here in the Appalachians! That makes me feel closer to the world and to you. Thank you for this lovely post!

BTW, my mantra is also Use it up, Wear it out, etc.
Thank you Tania and Elora - we do have a beautiful autumn here but obviously these trees are not native to this region so most of the colour comes from garden plantings or early landscape plantings from European settlers. Leaves in the images are: pistachio, tupelo, liriodendron, chestnut, nandina, pin oak, weeping maple and japanese maple plus a few others.
Julia, these are gorgeous! I've seen this done before, but never so well. Really lovely! Thanks for sharing.
I love your waxed leaves - they look so lovely! Leigh
The waxed leaves are gorgeous! Wonderfully artistic!

How lovely! I have not dipped leaves before. Maybe this autumn. Roses preserve well that way, too!
